Care, Shipping & Handmade Realities

Shipping Time

I live and work rurally, and the nearest post office is about an hour round trip. Because of this, orders are usually shipped one to two days per week.

Most pieces should arrive within one to two weeks, depending on where you live and when your order is placed. Each object is made, chosen, wrapped, and packed with care. Nothing here is rushed out of the door.

Product Variations

Many Dirt Creature pieces are made in small families rather than exact duplicates.

For smaller “Maker’s Pick” items, the photos shown are examples of the kind of object you may receive. Shape, surface, color, glaze movement, and size may vary more widely.

For mid-tier functional pieces, such as mugs and ritual cups, your piece will be close to the size, color, and style shown, but will still carry the natural variations of handmade work.

For larger one-of-a-kind pieces, such as bells, teapots, vessels, and sculptural works, the item photographed is the exact piece you will receive unless otherwise noted.

Returns & Damaged Shipments

We pack each piece carefully, but pottery is still pottery — on rare occasions, an item may be damaged during shipping.

If your order arrives broken, please email photos of both the damaged piece and the packaging to Richard@DirtCreature.com and we’ll make it right with either a refund or replacement if a similar piece is available.

For pieces that arrive safely, buyers are responsible for return shipping costs. Refunds will be issued once the item is returned in its original condition.

Drop Schedule

New work is released in periodic drops throughout the year. Every drop is different.

Newsletter subscribers receive early access and are sent a password before the public opening. Because the work is handmade in small batches, forms, glazes, and objects shift over time as techniques, materials, and curiosities evolve.

I Saw Something I Wanted, But It Sold Out

Once a piece or small batch sells out, it may not return in the same form.

I work in limited runs, and the work changes as my hands, interests, and materials change. If something catches you, it is usually best not to wait too long. It may not be available tomorrow.

Are the Pieces Food Safe?

Functional pieces intended for food or drink are assumed to be food safe and intended for daily use unless otherwise stated.

Some sculptural, wood-fired, or experimental pieces may not be food safe because of surface texture, glaze behavior, or firing conditions. If a piece is decorative, sculptural, or not intended for food use, that will be noted in the product listing.

Are Pieces Microwave and Dishwasher Safe?

Most functional pieces are made for everyday use and are microwave and dishwasher safe unless the listing says otherwise.

Custom Orders & Commissions

Sometimes.

Custom orders need to fit within the current style and direction of my work. Clay bodies, glazes, forms, and surfaces take years of testing and development, so I do not usually recreate work outside of the Dirt Creature world.

If you see a style, object, or direction that feels aligned, or if you are interested in custom commissioned sculpture work, please reach out to Richard@DirtCreature.com

Custom order minimum: $500 with a 50% deposit.

I can also create work with custom logos or branding, and may be available for events, wedding work, or special commissioned batches.

Consignment & Wholesale

I do not offer consignment.

Wholesale is available with a $500 minimum order. Wholesale orders receive a 30% discount from the prices listed on the site.

For wholesale inquiries, please reach out to: Richard@DirtCreature.com

Local Pickup & In-Person Sales

Local pickup is not currently available through the online shop unless arranged directly for a specific situation, market, or workshop.
